In the last months of his senior year at high school, Gavin's girlfriend dumps him, his best friend drifts away and his grandfather, a rancher as ancient and mysterious as Florida's back woods, dies. Jimmy the Drunk, a bum who can train squirrels to smoke, and Magnolia Thunderpussy, the toughest man in town and a transsexual bank cleaner, try to teach Gavin to do the right thing.
It is not until he meets Odd, a fire-eating dwarf with a plan for a better life, that Gavin sees his mistakes have consequences,
and it takes a night in jail to understand the choice he needs to make. He is from this generation of boys raised by women.
He has everything except for rules and a father. An excerpt from the novel was commended by the Willesden Herald International Short Story Competition and published in its anthology. Other excerpts have been published by Beat the Dust and Bent magazine. Questions or Comments? email me. |
